Courtneys' has always enjoyed great success in developing swimmers'
abilities. We only use qualified ASA Swimming Teachers using the new 2007 ASA
National Plan for Teaching Swimming. Summary of the levels Ducklings For children aged between 2 and 4 years
old. Children work through the five Duckling awards, building their
water confidence and learning to swim with the help of an adult in
the water. The following classes are for children 4 years and over. Tadpoles Developing basic water safety awareness, the "class" scenario,
basic movement skills and water confidence. Children work towards
Duckling 1,2,3 and Puffin badges. Shrimps Introducing the basic leg kicks and swimming with one float on the
front and back. Children work towards Stage 1 and Duckling 4
badges. Frogs Developing safe entries into the water, basic floating, travelling
on the front (breast stroke and / or front crawl) and Back stroke
over 5m, plus rotation to regain a standing position. Children work
towards Stage 2, Duckling 5 and 5m badges. Turtles Developing safe entries including submersion, travelling up to 10m
on the front (front crawl and / or breast stroke) and back stroke,
progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge. Children work
towards Stage 3 and 10m badges. Otters Developing an understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills,
refining kicking technique for all strokes and swimming 15m basic
technique of their choice of stroke. Children work towards stage 4
and 15m badges. Jellyfish Developing "watermanship" through sculling and treading water
skills and complete a synchro routine, also performing all the
strokes (front crawl, breast stroke, back stroke and butterfly)
with regular breathing over 10m and swim 25m choice of stroke.
Children work towards stage 5 and 25m badges. Dolphin Developing effective swimming skills including co-ordinated
breathing across all four strokes over 25m (16m butterfly) and
complete 50m choice of stroke and 100m using two strokes. Children
work towards stage 6, 50m and 100m badges. Sharks Developing quality stroke technique up to 100m, incorporating
previously learnt skills and combining them to develop a linked
routine and successfully complete an obstacle course. Children work
towards stage 7, 200, 400m and Bronze challenge badges. Poseidon/Neptune Continuing to develop their stroke techniques over longer distances
to include starts and turns. Children work towards 800m, 1000m,
Silver Challenge and Gold Challenge badges. Honours For those who have completed all the levels and wish to maintain
their fitness by working towards the Honours Challenge badge, along
with 1 mile badge. Free evaluations If you are unsure which stage your child would be in, then we do
offer a free evaluation with our qualified teachers. This would
take approximately 20 minutes. Please contact the Swimming Lesson
Co-ordinator for further information. Costs The costs are per 30 minute lesson and are booked and paid for as a
10-14 week term. Enrolments do take place three times a year and we
do operate a waiting list. Prices per class Ducklings £4.10,
